Nike Endorses Poverty?

Any good news?

Reuse a shoe

There is a lot of good news, such as the Global Corporate Responsibility Strategy and Nike Grind Program

The Global Corporate Resposibility Strategy is a plan that Nike has set up to attack problems within its contract factories as well as effects on the environment.  Take it for what it is: a plan written up by the best people at making things sound good there are.  Workplace conditions have shown little to no improvement, and it seems that this report is a tactic to make it seem that they are working on these labor abuse issues that plagued Nike’s image in the 90’s.  Read it for yourself and draw your own conclusions, then read about the strikes that have been going on lately in Vietnam.

The environmental programs that Nike has set up do seem to be doing some good.  Their reuse-a-shoe program takes old shoes and makes them into a substance called Nike Grind.  This material is used to create surfaces for basketball courts and tracks.  They call this the Nike Grind Program.  I just wish they would be able to implement programs like this that work that help with labor issues in contract factories.
